Manolo Valdés

Las obras del valenciano Manolo Valdés (nacido en 1942) constituyen un continuo homenaje al maestro Diego Velázquez. Valdés (que actualmente vive en NY) recrea un universo personal, reinterpretando a los grandes maestros clásicos y experimentando con diversos materiales y técnicas.
Su obra plantea un juego visual que induce al observador a indagar en su memoria cultural y reconocer iconogramas propios de la historia del arte. Tanto en su pintura como en su escultura subyace un sentimiento de "tactilidad" en el tratamiento que le da a los materiales, con una paleta pródiga, plena de corporalidad, de gestos amplios sustentados por grandes formatos.

The work of the Spanish artist Manolo Valdés (born in 1942) constitutes a continuous honoring to ths master Diego Velázquez. Valdés (nowadays living in NY) recreates a personal universe, reinterpreting the classics and experimenting with diverse materials and techniques. His work raises a visual game that induces the observer to investigate in his own cultural memory and recognize icons of the history of art. Both in hispainting and in sculptures there is a patent feeling of "tactility" of the materials used, with a bountiful, corporal palette ,plenty of wide gestures painted in big sizes.
